HARDEEVILLE, S.C. — The Savannah College of Art and Design men's soccer team busted out of their scoring drought in a big way with four second-half goals as they shutout Thomas (Ga.) University 4-0 Wednesday (Oct. 24) evening at the SCAD Athletics Complex.
The Bees, who snapped their three-match losing streak, improved to 10-5-0 while the Night Hawks fell to 4-11-0. SCAD closes out the regular season with a 1 p.m. Florida Sun Conference match Saturday (Oct. 27) against Webber International University in Babson Park, Fla.
SCAD, which had been shutout the past three matches, snapped a 360-minute, 55-second scoreless streak when
Ellert Hreinsson scored 1:49 into the second half off an assist from
Francis Waplinger. The Bees got an insurance goal when senior
Matt Engele knocked his third goal of the season into the left corner of the goal off an assist from senior
Kerr Christie at the 71:19 mark. Christie also assisted on the next goal for the Bees just over three minutes later as Hreinsson tallied his team-leading ninth goal. Senior
Jon Gretar Olafsson closed out the scoring late in the match on his fifth goal of 2007 off an assist from Hreinsson and Engele.
The Bees outshot the Night Hawks 20-8, including a 14-5 advantage on shots on goal. SCAD senior netminder
Tommi Sarkkinen had five saves as he notched his sixth shutout of the season. Jan Feldman had 10 stops for Thomas.
