St. Thomas (Fla.) holds off No. 21 Bees 1-0

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. —
 St. Thomas (Fla.) University got an early goal and made it stand up as the Bobcats shut out No. 21 Savannah College of Art and Design 1-0 in a Florida Sun Conference men's soccer match at the Delta Athletic Complex Saturday (Oct. 20) afternoon.

The Bobcats improved to 4-10-1 overall and picked up their first conference win in seven tries. SCAD dropped its third consecutive shutout and fell to 9-5-0 and 5-4-0. SCAD returns to action at 7 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 24) with a home match against Thomas (Ga.) University.

Jan Wiechmann scored the only goal of the match at the 25:22 mark. Gabe Renteria found Wiechmann in the box and he was able to poke the ball into the left corner of the goal.

SCAD, which had a goal disallowed in the second half on an offside call, outshot the Bobcats 20-6 and enjoyed a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. However, STU goalkeeper Diego Villagos picked up the shutout as he recorded 10 saves. SCAD netminder Tommi Sarkkinen tallied five saves.
