HARDEEVILLE, S.C. —
Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University scored twice in the final 12 minutes as they defeated No. 21 Savannah College of Art and Design 2-0 in a Florida Sun Conference men's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 17) at the Delta Athletic Complex.

The Eagles improved to 4-7-2 overall and to 4-3-1 inside the conference as they snapped a three-match losing skid to the Bees. SCAD, which has lost its last two matches via shutouts after reeling off eight consecutive wins, fell to 9-4-0 and 5-3-0. SCAD returns to action Saturday (Oct. 20) with a 3 p.m. match against St. Thomas (Fla.) University at the Delta Athletic Complex.

Embry-Riddle, which outshot SCAD 14-13, took a 1-0 lead at the 78:24 mark as Sam Litchfield headed in a Hugh Davey corner kick at the far post. It was the fifth goal of the season for Litchfield. The Eagles added an insurance goal just over five minutes later as Joe Yoffe converted a penalty kick after an ERAU player was fouled inside the box. It was Yoffe's team-leading seventh goal of 2007.

Prior to the goals, each team had excellent chances to score in the second half. The Bees had two shots by Jon Gretar Olafsson hit the crossbar and had another disallowed by an offside call. SCAD goalkeeper Tommi Sarkkinen, who had seven saves, turned away back-to-back point-blank shots by Litchfield and Yoffe midway through the final half. ERAU netminder Ian Levine recorded seven saves as he tallied his first shutout of the season.
