HARDEEVILLE, S.C. —
Savannah College of Art and Design exploded for four second-half goals — including two by Melissa Feuerriegel — as the 13th-ranked Bees defeated St. Thomas (Fla.) University 5-1 in a Florida Sun Conference women's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 13) afternoon at the Delta Soccer Complex.

The Bees improved to 9-2-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the Florida Sun while the Bobcats fell to 7-3-1 and 2-2-0. SCAD returns to the pitch next Saturday (Oct. 20) with a 1 p.m. FSC match against Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University at the Delta Athletic Complex.

With the score knotted at 1 at halftime, SCAD took control of the match with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half, both by Feuerriegel. The Clontarf, Queensland, Australia, native, who is ranked nationally in the NAIA in five different categories, gave the Bees the lead for good at the 53:55 mark off a Mary-Kate Sliter assist. Feuerriegel, who has knocked in at least two goals in a match for the sixth time in 2007, scored her team-leading 15th goal of the season 90 seconds later off a pass from Maddy Minnis to give the Bees a 3-1 lead.

SCAD added insurance goals from Nicola Daffey — her sixth of the season — and Melissa Haggerty — her first — to close out the scoring.

The teams traded goals in the first half. Jordan Luciano gave the Bees an early 1-0 advantage in the 23rd minute as she scored on a free kick while St. Thomas got the equalizer from Tiffany Vega 14 minutes later.

SCAD outshot the Bobcats while Laura Hansen recorded five saves for the Bees. St. Thomas goalkeeper Lea Jones tallied seven stops.
