SCAD golfer Alazne Urizar was selected as the SCAD “Student-Artist-Athlete Player of the Week” for May 19-25.
This past weekend Alazne Urizar took part in 2014 NAIA W. Golf National Championship in Lincoln, Nebraska. The tournament was composed of 17 teams of 144 golfers. Urizar won the 4-round tournament title by 1 stroke over her opponent from Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City won the team national title in sudden death on the 73rd hole by one stroke over SCAD.
Besides being the tournament’s medalist winner, Urizar also set the all-time championship’s scoring record with her 4-round total score of 291 (76, 71, 73, and 71). Urizar was this year’s only player to card multiple under-par rounds at the national championship. Because of her sterling play Urizar was also selected as an NAIA W. Golf All-American.
In the classroom Urizar carries a GPA of 3.38 in her Architecture major.
Congratulations to Alazne Urizar for the Student-Artist-Athlete Player of the Week honor. This is the 7th time that Urizar has won this award.
Other worthy considerations were Sofia Molinaro (3rd place at W. Golf Nationals), Hannah Lieberman (2nd in the marathon at Track and Field Nationals, which is the highest finish at nationals of any female in SCAD’s history), Jessy Scarpone (NAIA W. Track and Field 2-time All-America honors in the 5K and 10K), and Jon Riley (set SCAD record in the Full-Marathon at Men's NAIA Track and Field Nationals).
This week’s selection of The Student-Artist Player of the Week will be the last until the fall 2014 athletic season’s begin.
