SCAD Women's Tennis player Maja Plavsic was selected as the SCAD "Student-Artist-Athlete Player of the Week" for May 12-18.
Plavsic plays no. 2 singles and no. 1 doubles for the SCAD Bees. This past week she participated in NAIA National Women’s Tennis Championships in Mobile, Alabama. Because of SCAD’s performance during the regular season and its second place finish in The Sun Conference Championship the Lady Bees were awarded a “bye” in the opening round of nationals.
In the second round Plavsic, along with her partner Theresa Schmaus, won at No. 1 doubles against Westmont College 8-4. In her singles competition at No. 2, Plavsic recorded a straight set, 6-1, 6-0. The Lady Bees went on to win the match 5-1.
In the quarterfinals, the Lady Bees were eliminated by the eventual National Champions, Georgia Gwinnett. Plavsic and Schmaus lost their doubles match 5-8. In her singles match Plavsic was in her third set when play was discontinued because of Georgia Gwinnett’s winning its 5th match for a team victory.
Because of Plavsic’s regular and postseason play she was honored by being selected to the 2014 NAIA Women’s Tennis 2nd Team All-America. She was one of 32 players in the nation selected to 1st or 2nd team NAIA All-America status.
Congratulations to senior Maja Plavsic for her athletic accomplishments and her being selected by the NAIA as an athletic all-American.
Another worthy consideration for the “Student-Artist-Athlete Player of the Week” honor was Maria Barragan (W. Tennis).
