Freshman Men's Swimming Team member, Joel Ax, was selected Student-Artist-Athlete Player of the Week for the week of March 3-9. Ax took five national titles at the 2014 NAIA National Swimming & Diving Championships March 5-8.
Not only did the freshman swimmer come in first in 5 events, but he set two SCAD swimming records and one national record. Ax took title honors in the 200 Yd. Freestyle with a time of 1:36.71 and established a new championship (and SCAD) record. Ax repeated as champion in the 500 Yd. Freestyle (4:25.67) and the 1650 Yd. Freestyle (15:30.09).
He also was part of two relay teams that took national titles. In the 200 Yd. Freestyle Relay he helped establish a new SCAD record with a 1:28.83 time. In the 800 Yd. Freestyle Relay Ax was a part of the team that set a new SCAD and national record with a time of 6:34.98. Because of his achievements Ax was selected as a 2014 NAIA All-American in only his first year of competition.
Ax is majoring in Interior Design and carries a 3.5 GPA.
Other worthy candidates for the honor were Caroline Lepesant (W. Swimming), and Ryan Searles, Mark Shvartsman, and Patrick Cardillo (M. Swimming).
