Fitness Facility Usage Policy

Patron Policies

  1. All patrons must complete the electronic waiver process on mySCAD before using the facilities. All patrons must sign the waiver to validate their ID card for entering and using the SCAD fitness facilities.

  2. Only currently enrolled SCAD students, faculty, or staff are permitted to use SCAD fitness facilities.

  3. In order to enter and/or use the facilities, all patrons must scan their valid SCAD ID card at the door and at the front desk. If your SCAD ID card reads invalid for any reason, you cannot use the facility.

  4. If a SCAD Faculty/Staff member does not have his or her SCAD Card, the employee must show some other form of photo ID and the manager on duty or SCAD security officer must contact the appropriate school dean, chair or supervisor to verify the appropriate access for the faculty/staff member. Entry then may be granted.

  5. Patrons can temporarily exchange their SCAD ID to check out additional equipment to be used within the facility.

  6. Patrons who participate in programs and use the fitness facilities do so at their own risk. SCAD is not responsible for any injury that may occur to individuals participating in any exercise activity. Participation in any exercise activity is on a voluntary basis.

  7. Medical clearance before participation is highly recommended.

  8. Proper athletic attire must be worn at all times. SCAD Fitness Staff reserves the right to determine what is classified as appropriate attire.

  9. The following items are not permitted:

    1. Denim pants or shorts

    2. Khaki pants or shorts

    3. Clothing exposing bare midriff or excessive skin. No Cut-offs or sports bras

    4. Apparel with exposed zippers, chains, rivets, or buckles

    5. Sandals, boots or partially open shoes (closed toe shoes required)

    6. Shoes may only be removed in the group exercise room

  10. Having food or open cup drinks in any exercise areas are prohibited. All drinks must be in sealable containers.

  11. No personal items may be kept at the front desk. Items such as bags, backpacks, duffle bags and boot bags are to be stored in lockers or designated cubbies during your workout.

  13. SCAD Fitness is not responsible for any damage or loss of property.

  14. SCAD Fitness staff reserves the rights to refuse service to any patron who violates any rule or regulation, or engages in any verbal and/or physical abuse of other students, faculty or staff.

  15. Any formal problems, questions, concerns regarding either fitness centers should be submitted via email to fitness@scad.edu.Please clearly describe the issue being addressed, and be sure to include your name and phone number. All emails will be carefully reviewed.

  16. All patrons are encouraged to share their feedback on their experience in the fitness facilities through a one minute online survey. This survey can be found on SCAD Fitness social media pages and the SCAD athletics website under the fitness tab.

  17. Students are required to comply with the rules and regulations in the student handbook. Faculty are required to comply with the rules and policies identified in the faculty and staff handbook. Fitness staff are required to comply with the rules and policies identified in the employee handbook, in addition to all SCAD student conduct policies.

Facility Etiquette

  1. All patrons are required to wipe down all cardio and weight room equipment after each use. Disinfecting wipes and sprays are provided throughout the facility.

  2. During busy hours, when a patron is waiting for a machine, you must observe the 30-minute time limits on all cardiovascular equipment.

  3. Only hands-free use of electronic devices (phones, iPads, etc.) is allowed on equipment.

  4. Extended idling and/or hogging machines and equipment is prohibited. Other patrons must be allowed to "work in" between sets.

  5. Return used weights and equipment to its original state/place.

  6. Weights may not be set against any wall, against/on benches, or equipment.

  7. Report any unsafe facility conditions immediately to the SCAD Fitness staff.

  8. Report damaged equipment immediately to the SCAD Fitness staff.

  9. Report any injuries to the on-site SCAD Fitness staff.

  10. SCAD Fitness staff is responsible for enforcing all rules, regulations, and procedures. Any patron that fails to comply with the facility rules and etiquette may lose their SCAD Fitness privileges. The SCAD Fitness staff on duty has the right to enlist the help of Campus Security Services at any time if deemed necessary.

Towel Service

SCAD Fitness provides one towel per patron, each visit. Towels are a property of SCAD and not to be taken outside of the fitness centers. They are provided to ensure both personal hygiene and the hygiene of others. Patrons are also required to use available cleaning cloths to wipe down any and all machines immediately after each use. Used towels are to be dropped at the designated bins and baskets.
