Long Valley, New Jersey – For the second straight year the SCAD equestrian team won the Novice Team Division of the American National Riding Commission (ANRC) National Intercollegiate Equitation Championship Sunday afternoon on the campus of Centenary College. The Bees also finished fifth in the National Team Division.
SCAD had two of the top three individual riders in the novice team division led by Quinn Lowsky, who was named high point champion rider. Lowsky finished second in both the program ride and medal phase of the competition and third in the derby phase.
Kate Morrison won the medal phase en route to a third place finish in the individual standings. Meredith Denny, the final member of the novice team, finished first in the written phase of the ANRC.
SCAD finished the ANRC with 161.47 points to defeat Centenary College by two points in the overall team standings. The Bees finished first in medal phase and second in both the derby phase and program ride stages.
Competing as an individual Kelsey Fey finished fourth in the overall individual standings. Fey finished fourth in the written phase, seventh in program ride, and ninth in the medal phase.
In the national team division, the Bees finished second in both the written phase and the program ride stages of the ANRC. Leading the way for SCAD was Ryan Genn, who earned two top-ten finishes including a second place finish in the program ride.
Tatum Tatreau also earned two top-ten finishes with a fifth place finish in the written phase and a sixth place finish in the program ride. Devon Walther, the final member of the national team, finished ninth in the written phase.
Competing as an individual Lauren Stueller finished 26th in the overall individual standings.
This is the second time in ANRC history that a school has won back-to-back titles in the novice division. Sweet Briar College did in in 2013 and 2014.
The ANRC championships is divided into two division (national and novice). Within each division the riders are judged in four phases; a program ride, a hunter seat equitation medal course, a derby style equitation course, and a written test.
The Bees return to action Thursday, May 5, when they travel to Lexington, Kentucky to compete in the IHSA National Championship. SCAD is looking to defend its 2015 IHSA National Championship.
